Are you saying he's clinically insane, or just plainly "nuts" in the colloquial sense? I'm unsure which, as somewhere there's a streak of Machiavellian genius in Putin's series of chess moves. Evil? Probably, but who knows his real intent and what he really believes? His moves have defied my guesses and, like you, the first surprise was the actual invasion. I don't think he believes he can get the old band back together (USSR), so his end-game really is...?

I don't think he is clinically insane so much as he is mentally impaired somehow. He has become paranoid, belligerent, impatient and delusional.
