Dear god, we have the same ultra-Right idiocy in Australia under the Leader of the conservative Opposition, the LNP. Their leader, Peter Dutton, is following the Trump playbook in terms of dog-whistling, blaming immigrants and vowing to (a) restrict immigration to record lows, and (b) deport virtually anyone he doesn't like (it's a bit more complex than that, but that's basically the essence). The only reason I'm reading avidly to you and another woman writer of the Left is that you are showing me the way our body politic is going. The progressive Labor leader, PM Anthony Albanese, thinks he can present a small target to the electorate, but he's getting smashed by the headline-grabbing LNP and a complicit media. He's been warned countless times by all manner of people including within his own Caucus, but he's politically deaf, a sorta Biden Lite.
