In a civilised society you are correct. In a civilised society there is informed debate, respect for all sides and a willingness to listen. In a civilised society there are actors of goodwill who will promote harmony and a synthesis of ideas.

You don't have that with the MAGA camp. Nowhere near that.

Those who opposed MAGA need now to group together even more tightly to fight around core, agreed issues. Democrats need to work out the policies which resonate with "middle USA", the more aspirational groups and those who are not of the upper-middle class, but those of the lower quintiles, as well as those who are marginalised by the MAGA adherents. Harris spoke to those in the white picket fence houses rather than those who struggle to keep any sort of roof over their heads. From the other side of the world, I viewed the whole campaign as focused on platitudes and motherhood statements, with Harris being a small target rather than having a bold plan to help those who are hurting through cost-of-living, housing shortage, discrimination of all sorts (surely that wouldn't have been hard) and lifting the general standard of living in a polarised society.

Organisation against the right is the key, not an attempt at placation and appeasement, which is the way MAGA supporters would take any overture.
