Regardless of country, good people of willing heart to serve their country lose their lives because of politicians far from the real world and fray, and cowardly upper-echelon officers too concerned with covering their backsides than saving lives and practical solutions. There are of course exceptions, but this attitude appears endemic to the military hierarchy and the politicians who direct them.

May the souls of those who perished due to the inaction of others rest in peace and may we learn the value of those who would sacrifice themselves on our behalf.

May those who command be on notice: you are responsible for human lives, your own side and those putative 'enemies'. Every death is on your head, so choose wisely. The wrong choice makes you guilty of murder.
